I Still Want to Fall in Love (Poem)

​

Woken up by rain

In the hours when the sun and moon exchange glances

Wrapped heavy dream and dusk

In the short moments when I can be anything 

But still chose to stand here

Before the neighbors start sweeping 

Before the bathroom lights come on

Holding on to each time 

You turn and we touch

I still want to fall in love

Fill in the cracks with shear butter and sunscreen

Prepare a picnic with friends that starts two hours after it was supposed to

And never ends because we all would rather be here

In the embrace of a youth that renews of the years cut themselves

I still want to fall in love

​

Watching the turquoise on the underbelly of a small bird 

Precariously dodging a branch

Forgetting and remembering all at once 

The storm and the sunsets

The hard tongues sweet teas

Getting lost with a map in hand

And still choosing to laugh at your inability to predict the future

I still want to fall and love

With the imperfect things that exist despite us 

And because of us

Pop charts, chocolate doughnuts

Maybe Nebulas and hot springs

Staying up with swollen eyes 

Sorrowful yet magnificent

Waiting for more ways to learn
